Plastic Blitz on the Rye

The Environment is an important Rotary focus, and Plastic Blitz  was started by Rotary District 1090 in 2021 as clean-up and awareness event in relation to pollution of the Thames and its tributaries.

This is the 2nd year that our club has participated by organizing a clean-up of the Rye, which is the major and very well-used park in High Wycombe, and which has tributaries of the Thames running along its north and south sides.

For 4 rather cold (but at least not wet) hours on Saturday 1st June our teams of club members and their families (some of whom are pictured below) scoured the less accessible parts of the Rye, particularly the stream and Dyke banks, and collected 7 large bags of refuse including many plastic items as well as paper, glass and metal.

Thanks too to Bucks Council and Busy Bees Nursery for their support and assistance.
